The Next Stage - Build it. Scale it. Lead it.
The Next Stage Method

Our Process

Growing an ecommerce business gets difficult when everything starts to look like a priority.

The Next Stage process is designed to make the problems easier to see, work out what is actually holding the business back, and then focus attention on the things most likely to make a commercial difference.

We look at the whole customer and commercial journey rather than treating traffic, conversion, email, retention and advertising as separate problems.

Diagnose first. Prioritise properly. Then improve.

The Six Pillars

Where We Start

One of the first things we look at is whether the store itself is doing the job it needs to do.

The Six Pillars give us a consistent way to assess the buying journey from the moment somebody arrives through to the point where they decide whether or not to buy.

They are not a generic conversion checklist. Each pillar asks a different commercial question that can either help a sale happen or quietly get in the way.

01

Storefront Signal Test

Do people quickly understand what you sell and why they should care?

A new visitor should be able to work out what the business sells, who it is for, the problem it solves and why they should trust it without having to hunt for the answer. We look at the signals the store gives in those first few seconds - proposition, positioning, credibility, proof and clarity.

02

Buying Path Check

Is it easy for somebody to get from interest to the right product?

Good ecommerce should make buying feel straightforward. We look at navigation, product discovery, product selection and the steps between arriving on the site and reaching the right buying decision. The aim is to remove unnecessary choices, detours and friction.

03

Buyer Confidence Test

Does the customer feel safe enough to buy?

Customers rarely abandon a purchase because they suddenly stop wanting the product. More often, uncertainty creeps in. We look at proof, reviews, guarantees, delivery, returns, compatibility, support and the reassurance needed to make spending money feel like a sensible decision.

04

Customer Outcome Check

Are you selling what changes for the customer - or simply describing the product?

Features matter, but they are rarely the end reason somebody buys. We look at whether the store connects what the product does with the practical benefit and the wider result the customer actually wants. The stronger that connection, the easier it becomes to understand the value.

05

Buying Doubt Check

Have you answered the questions that could stop the sale?

Every purchase creates questions. Will it fit? Will it work for me? Is it worth the money? What happens if I get it wrong? We identify the doubts most likely to block the purchase and make sure those answers appear where the customer needs them - not hidden elsewhere on the site.

06

Commercial Proposition Check

Is there a strong enough reason to choose this offer at this price?

A good product is not automatically a good proposition. We look at price, value, alternatives, risk, what is included and the commercial argument for buying now rather than doing nothing or choosing another option.

The Point Isn't To Score The Website

The scores simply help us see where the biggest opportunities appear to sit.

The real job is to understand how the different parts of the buying journey work together. A weak proposition can make advertising expensive. Unanswered questions can suppress Add to Basket. A poor buying path can make a good product look harder to buy than it really is.

So rather than trying to improve everything at once, we use the Six Pillars to identify where attention should go first.

The Wider Process

The Store Is Only One Part Of The Commercial Picture

The Six Pillars help us understand the buying experience, but they are not the whole Next Stage process.

A growing ecommerce business also needs the right offer, email system, customer retention strategy, advertising model, commercial numbers and a clear understanding of what should happen next.

Those areas all connect.

Over time, this page will bring those parts of the Next Stage process together into one practical commercial system.
